Owned by Executive Chef Jorge Martínez, his wife Lorena Zertuche, and General Manager Juan Carlos Ruelas, Loló brings its playful interpretation of Jaliscan-Californian cuisine to its new home, just blocks away from its original location.
The new restaurant features a more expansive dining room, an open kitchen, two bar areas and a downstairs private dining room opening soon.
Fresh from opening two other restaurants in Guadalajara, Mexico–i Latina, and Anita Li–Jorge Martínez and Lorena Zertuche founded Loló as an intimate neighborhood restaurant in San Francisco’s Mission District.
Along with Gerardo Cendejas–chef, architect, and jack of all trades–Jorge and Lorena bring together over 10 years of restaurant and design experience. They envisioned a space in the Mission’s already incredibly vibrant neighborhood, where they could combine rich traditions of Mexican heritage with modern aesthetics and the essence of Bay Area food culture through the use of fresh, local Californian ingredients. Lorena took inspiration from growing up on rancherías, and the colorful, vivid streets and markets of Mexico.
Loló brings the essence of those same streets and markets to the streets of the Mission, through an environment that welcomes guests to share in reimagined Mexican food and culture while creating new experiences in the Mission.
Jorge transforms the most typical mexican dishes into a innovative and refreshing proposals. Considered as one of the most creative chefs in México, he decided to reside in San Francisco, a city that fascinates him because of its fresh ingredients, innovative ideas and creativity. He founded the former Olé Madrid in San Diego, California, Anita Li and I Latina in Guadalajara Jalisco and Loló in San Francisco, California.
Lorena translates the lifestyle of the Mexican rancherías of her childhood into unique contemporary pieces. Her work combines textures, recycled materials, colors and themes of popular culture with those of her native México. Loló brings her unique designs to restaurants, cultural centers and corporate offices throughout Guadalajara, San Francisco and Barcelona. More of her San Francisco-inspired work can also be found at the showroom, "Loló Muebles."
